ABOUT THE TRIP
During May of 2023, I had the opportunity to travel to Europe with Belmont’s Interior Design Program. The theme of our trip was “Sacred and Secular Spaces,” so a majority of our European journey was spent touring cathedrals and other forms of sacred spaces in Italy, Switzerland and France.
PROJECT SCOPE
Students were tasked with designing a sacred space on Belmont’s campus using what we learned from the places we visited in Europe.
For my project, I converted the fifth floor green roof of Belmont’s Janet Ayers Academic Center into a sacred space for underclassmen students on campus. Unlike many social spaces on campus, this design would serve as a quiet, work-free area where students can reflect and escape the stressors of everyday life.
To complete my project, I utilized Sketchup for the 3D model and a combination of Enscape and Photoshop for the final renderings.
